The core of the Photographic Collections consists of images collected by IDAF. The collection documents South African life under apartheid, and resistance to it from the late 1940s until 1990.The subjects covered include history of apartheid, liberation movements, forced removals, resettlement, repression, political prisoners, trials, labour and trade unions, women, culture, education and armed struggle.
NOTABLE PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS
•Eli Weinberg collection. – Eli Weinberg was a photographer and activist
who documented the struggle against apartheid from the 1940s to the 1970s, covering major events, campaigns and personalities of this period.
•Leon Levson collection documents the social conditions, both rural and urban in South Africa between the 1940s to the 1960s.
•Billy Paddock collection – mid to late 1980’s.
Photographic material, for which the UWC RIM-Mayibuye Archive holds copyright, is available for editorial reproduction at commercial rates, with some reductions for community and non-commercial publications.
